Position Summary The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all construction activities related to open-pit mining projects. This includes managing civil works, infrastructure development, water management, mechanical installations, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements. The role requires strong leadership, hands-on field experience, and the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams in remote mining environments. 2. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution Lead and coordinate all construction activities across mining infrastructure (roads, pits, workshops, camps, dewatering systems, processing areas, etc.). Develop detailed construction schedules, logistics plans, and resource allocations. Ensure alignment between engineering design, project plans, and field execution. Team Management Supervise construction teams, contractors, subcontractors, and technical supervisors. Monitor workforce productivity and ensure compliance with performance targets. Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of local and expat teams. Technical Oversight Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work packages. Ensure construction works adhere to mining engineering requirements and international standards. Coordinate with engineering, HSE, geology, mining operations, and procurement. Quality, Safety & Compliance Ensure strict compliance with QHSE standards and legal regulations in Senegal and Guinea. Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments. Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Budget & Cost Control Monitor project budgets, cost forecasts, and resource utilization. Validate contractor claims, variations, and material procurement. Optimize construction methods to reduce costs and maximize efficiency. Stakeholder Coordination Liaise with clients, local authorities, consultants, and subcontractors. Prepare progress reports, dashboards, and technical documentation. Represent MCI during site meetings and contractual discussions. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Master’s degree is an advantage. Experience Minimum 8–10 years of experience in large-scale mining or heavy industrial construction projects. Proven experience in open-pit mining infrastructure construction. Experience in West Africa or remote site environments is a strong asset. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of open-pit mining infrastructure (roads, drainage, dewatering, mechanical installations). Proficiency with construction planning tools (MS Project, Primavera). Strong understanding of QA/QC, HSE, and international construction standards. Ability to manage multi-disciplinary construction teams and contractors. Behavioral Skills Leadership and team-building capabilities. Strong communication and decision-making skills. Ability to work under pressure in remote mining conditions. Problem-solving mindset and results-driven approach. Additional Information Site-based rotation (e.g., 6/2) depending on project phase.
