THE CANDIDATE: REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent construction experience (essential).
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing civil or utilities projects, ideally water-related.
  • Experience in the installation of large-diameter water mains, pipelines, or water infrastructure works is highly desirable.
  • Full clean driver’s license (essential).
  • Strong knowledge of Irish Water specifications and standards is a significant advantage.
  • Previous experience as a Civil Foreman or Site Manager welcomed.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE.

GMC Utilities Group is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead delivery on key water infrastructure projects. This is a permanent role within our Operations Department, working on contracts for Irish Water and other key utility clients. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex water-related civil engineering projects.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Oversee all construction activities across multiple water infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Manage site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers with a strong focus on quality and productivity.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Irish Water standards and specifications across all project stages.
  • Lead Health & Safety initiatives and ensure compliance with company and legal standards on all sites.
  • Oversee all elements of civil works, particularly water mains installation, pipelines, reservoirs, and pumping stations.
  • Collaborate with design, planning, and environmental teams to identify risks and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure site records, contract documentation, and project progress reporting are accurate and up to date.
  • Manage and monitor budgets, materials, and timelines for optimal performance.
  • Support handover processes and liaise with clients and local authorities.
  • Promote GMC’s values, including quality, safety, environmental responsibility, and customer service.
