Description

Pioneer Construction is looking for a hard-working, self-motivated employee with a proven record of safety and reliability to fill the position of Construction Material Lab Technician in the Kenora, Ontario area. The Lab Technician will need to be punctual, dependable and will require a high level of competence, motivation, professionalism, and independence. This is a full-time seasonal position available with training, competitive wages and a benefits package

EDUCATION:

  • Valid G Class Driver’s license is required.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in a Lab Technician role or similar position is preferred but not required
  • Surface Miner Common Core is an asset.
  • Aggregate and Asphalt CCIL certification is an asset.
  • ACI certification is an asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of construction materials including asphalt and other aggregates.
  • Proficiency in safely operating laboratory equipment including safe handling and cleaning procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine tests on asphalt and other aggregate materials.
  • Prepare standard material and calibrations when applicable.
  • Safely operate all laboratory equipment including safe handling and cleaning procedures.
  • Participate in lab quality control programs.
  • Prepare samples for testing, ensuring correct handling and storage procedures.
  • Comply with all standards and procedures that are applicable to the testing process including environmental and governmental regulations.
  • Analyze test results and prepare accurate reports to present results.
  • Work collaboratively with other lab technicians, lab managers, surveyors and other stakeholders.
  • Work shifts including evenings and weekends when required.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers.
  • Must maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
