Department Overview:
The Construction Project Executive (CPE) is responsible for assisting a Senior Construction Project Executive (SPE) or Director, with the leadership and management of a major capital project.
The CPE will work to ensure that the project meet the Guiding Principles set by OHSU Executive Leadership and the Senior Project Executive. The CPE will work with the SPE and the Project Team, to deliver a project that provides the best value possible for OHSU and achieves operational excellence.
In addition to a major capital project, the CPE may be required to support other projects which are complex, high-cost, and high-risk with a great degree of diversity.
The CPE will provide leadership and support within the Design and Construction department as needed.
The CPE is the fourth level in a series of project management roles, which include the Associate Project Man-ager, Construction Project Manager, Senior Construction Project Manager, Construction Project Executive, and Senior Construction Project Executive. The CPE will report directly to an SPE, a Program Manager, or a Director. This role is assigned to the Inpatient Addition Project (IPA) to assist the IPA Senior Project Executive in delivering this $650M project.
Function/Duties of Position:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of construction project management best practices and standard of industry practices.
  • Working knowledge of principles, processes and methods of construction project management, including budget and estimate generation, schedule management (including “fast track” design package phasing), budget forecast and cashflow projections.
  • Thorough knowledge of preparing contract documents required, with documentable experience working with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Knowledge and understanding of design and construction LEAN tools and principles.
  • Understanding of ground-up building construction, building systems and functionality, and healthcare design.
  • Structure and content of the English language, rules of composition, report writing and grammar.
  • Experience with contract management and negotiation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or similar.
  • Fifteen (15)+ years experience in the Design and Construction Industry.
  • Ten (10)+ years experience as an Owner’s Representative.
  • Experience in the design and construction of Academic Medical Research Centers.
  • Strategic Planning experience and understanding of research, education, and/or hospital operations.
  • Experience collaborating, communicating and working with AHJs (i.e. OHA, City of Portland, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience using e-Builder, MS Project, MS Office software, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, etc.
  • Experience with HIPAA, NFPA, FGI, OARs, the Joint Commission or DNV, NIH, and related statutes, rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • LEAN operations methods and tools.
