REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A degree in civil, mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design and project management of civil and/or electrical construction projects, administering contracts and managing subcontractors.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Experience with underground construction is required.
  • A strong civil construction and project management background, working knowledge of MS office and project management applications. Project management courses and PMP certification will be considered an advantage.
  • Expertise in the development and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications and contract documents is required, including experience in estimating and preparation of specifications and tender documents.
  • Hands-on experience in the construction of large civil projects is required; managing projects in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of various acts and codes including OH&S Act, Construction Lien Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and any other applicable legislation.
  • Working knowledge of contract law as it pertains to construction is required.
  • The successful candidate will have effective interpersonal communication skills and be committed to working in a team-based environment with a focus on continuous improvement and quality customer service.
  • Reliable vehicle and ability to commute to job sites is required

Responsibilities
  • Developing solutions to implement and improve designs, conducting facility and site audits, validating client work requests, and providing cost and scheduling estimates.
  • Providing support to the Manager of Operations.
  • Reviewing specifications and assisting in contract administration and project management services.
  • Soliciting and evaluating quotations from consultants and contractors.
  • Providing effective liaison between clients, contractors and consultants.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project file documentation.
  • Monitoring contract performance and resolving deficiencies or disputes.
  • Attending regular site meetings and monitoring site progress.
  • Coordinating post construction inspections and warranty management.
  • Preparing reports for senior management regarding new construction, major renovations, and demolitions.
  • Enforcing and promoting Health & Safety policies and practices.
  • Working in compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
