Position Overview:
The Construction Project Manager (CPM) will oversee and coordinate all aspects of excavation projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to manage teams, subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and client relationships effectively. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in excavation and construction project management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning and Coordination:
- Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, resources, and budgets.
- Coordinate with clients, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project scope and requirements.
- Ensure proper permits, licenses, and documentation are obtained prior to project initiation.
- Site Management and Supervision:
- Oversee daily site operations, including earthmoving, grading, trenching, and other excavation activities.
- Monitor progress and ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Troubleshoot on-site challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Supervise construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Assign tasks, set performance expectations, and ensure proper training for team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment focused on safety and quality.
- Budget and Cost Management:
- Prepare cost estimates and maintain control over project expenses.
- Track and report financial performance, identifying potential overruns and cost-saving opportunities.
- Approve invoices, change orders, and project-related expenses.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections.
- Address and mitigate risks to ensure a safe work environment.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Maintain clear and accurate records of project progress, budgets, and incidents.
- Provide regular updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and deliver post-project reports, including lessons learned and recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of project management experience in excavation or heavy civil construction.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid) and scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
- Strong understanding of excavation techniques, equipment, and safety standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
- Physical ability to inspect job sites and operate in outdoor environments.
