COMMERCIAL PROJECT MANAGER – UNDERGROUND UTILITIES

This role is responsible for managing commercial underground utility construction projects related to water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings both strategic oversight and technical expertise to ensure that projects are delivered safely, on time, and profitably.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy civil or underground utility construction, including 5+ years in a project management role.
  • Proven success managing utility projects involving water, sewer, and storm systems in a commercial or municipal setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction documents, safety codes, and permitting procedures.
  • Proficient in construction scheduling software, spreadsheets, and job costing systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (experience may substitute).
  • PMP certification is a plus but not required.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass drug and background checks.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the execution of commercial underground utility projects from pre-construction through final completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using critical path or bar chart methods, ensuring timely milestones and resource planning.
  • Conduct job site inspections, quality control checks, and ensure post-production customer satisfaction.
  • Manage project budgets, monitor costs in real-time, and report variances to leadership.
  • Handle contract administration, including reviewing scopes of work, coordinating with clients, and ensuring terms are met.
  • Supervise and coordinate field staff, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure productivity, compliance, and safety.
  • Lead project handoff meetings, progress reviews, and safety planning with superintendents, estimators, and field staff.
  • Prepare and submit all required submittals, permits, inspection documents, and as-builts.
  • Oversee procurement and negotiate purchase orders and subcontracts with a focus on scope clarity, pricing, and accountability.
  • Monitor and support project performance goals including profitability, safety metrics, and field productivity benchmarks.
