The Opportunity The Safety Engineer plays a key role in driving Overwatch’s safety culture and ensuring safe work practices are implemented and enforced on-site. This is a primarily field-based role, embedded within our project team to proactively identify risks, enforce safety protocols, and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations. The Safety Engineer serves as the on-site representative for all health and safety concerns, ensuring an accident-free workplace and supporting our commitment to protecting every team member.
This position will be dedicated to a large-scale data center construction project in Fayette County, Ohio, and requires daily on-site presence, with possible weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
Implement, enforce, and continuously improve safety protocols to prevent incidents.
Review daily Task Hazard Analyses (THAs) and audit for accuracy.
Engage directly with craft employees to promote and reinforce the safety message.
Facilitate incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Assist with developing and implementing site-specific safety plans.
Partner with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to address safety concerns.
Maintain complete and accurate safety documentation, permits, and records.
Provide safety orientations and conduct ongoing training sessions.
Coordinate pre-start safety meetings with all trade partners, including review of project-specific safety plans.
Offer technical safety guidance to field and office personnel.
Identify areas for improvement and recommend updated safety guidelines, procedures, and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational/Environmental Health & Safety, or equivalent field experience.
Minimum of 2 years’ professional safety experience on commercial construction projects.
OSHA 30-hour certification required; OSHA 500 preferred.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of project personnel.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to facilitate event management processes including incident classification, data collection, and lessons learned documentation.
Experience with MEP systems safety, electrical/mechanical isolation, and LOTO coordination preferred.
Experience in fall protection/prevention, rigging/hoisting, crane operations, utility damage prevention, environmental remediation, demolition, fire prevention, scaffolding, IAQ control, and mobile equipment safety preferred.
Fluent in Spanish desired.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, climbing ladders/stairs, kneeling, and working on uneven terrain.
Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced environment and respond quickly to urgent situations.
Must meet all legally mandated safety standards for the role.
