Description:

Reporting to the Construction Manager and/or Project Manager, the Construction Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing construction crews ensuring that projects are completed within the established parameters, as well as on-time and within targeted budget, all the while keeping safety top of mind. This is a full-time permanent position available with competitive wages and a benefits package.

EDUCATION:

  • 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction (MTO/Municipal projects).
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Relevant post-secondary education, Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, as well as proposals/contracts.
  • Strengths in all areas of project management, such as safety, scheduling, cost management, and QC.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to identify performance gaps, coaching and mentoring crews appropriately to build an efficient team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to work full days Monday -Friday and the occasional Saturday as required during the Summer.
  • Ability to adapt to last-minute changes as dictated by the needs of our customers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee every phase of civil construction projects from inception to completion, working closely with all involved in the project to ensure productivity and efficiency.
  • Create and manage construction plans.
  • Coordinate all work carried out by field staff and sub-contractors in accordance with schedule timeline established.
  • Maintain records surrounding labour, material costs, owned and rented equipment, tracking inventory of materials and supplies to ensure all is within budget and on hand when required.
  • Establish and monitor construction estimates and budgets.
  • Inspect and review the quality of work performed by field staff and sub-contractors.
  • Liaise between field staff and senior managers to keep them informed of any potential scheduling issues and determine the course for corrective action.
  • Will communicate and oversee on-site safety program and promote the importance of health and safety in the field.
  • Display professionalism toward our company and customers
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures: safety standards operations, maintenance, training, cleanliness standards, etc.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
