POSITION OVERVIEW:

We’re seeking a seasoned and strategic Superintendent to join our team. As a key leader for Navacon Construction, you’ll be the primary point of on-site contact for large-scale municipal sewer, water, and road projects, as well as commercial/industrial site servicing. You will be accountable for all aspects of a project’s execution, including safety, quality, schedule, and budget. This role requires a proactive leader who can not only manage crews but also engage with stakeholders, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure projects are completed to the highest standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of heavy civil construction experience, with at least five (5) years in a supervisory or management role as a foreman or superintendent.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • A deep and comprehensive understanding of all aspects of heavy civil construction, including municipal sewer, water, and road reconstruction.
  • Proven experience with underground utility installation, repair, and replacement, with a strong working knowledge of pipe bedding, trenching, and shoring techniques, and familiarity with Ontario Provincial Standards.
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, pipe installation, concrete, and asphalt operations.
  • Leadership & Management Skills: Proven track record of leading large teams, managing complex projects, and driving positive results. Must be an excellent communicator with strong delegation, time management, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills. Ability to anticipate challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Certifications: A valid Ontario driver’s license with a clean driving record. Gold Seal Certification is considered an asset.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement complex engineering drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Physical ability to work on a demanding construction site and in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities
  • Safety Leadership: Champion a zero-incident safety culture, enforcing all regulations and policies to ensure a safe work environment for all personnel, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Construction Oversight: Oversee and provide direct site management of the construction lifecycle, from initial mobilization to final demobilization. This includes operational scheduling and project cost control.
  • Crew & Subcontractor Management: Directly supervise and mentor multiple crews and foremen. Coordinate and manage the activities of all subcontractors, ensuring their work aligns with the project plan and quality standards.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all work is performed in strict adherence to project specifications, engineering drawings, and industry best practices. Conduct regular inspections to maintain a high level of workmanship.
  • Cost Control & Financial Oversight: Monitor project costs against the approved budget, identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, and provide accurate forecasting for labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for engineers, inspectors, clients, and project managers. Conduct regular site meetings and provide detailed progress reports.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively identify potential issues related to schedule, budget, or unforeseen site conditions. Develop and execute effective solutions to minimize project disruptions.
  • Reporting: Prepare comprehensive daily and weekly reports detailing project progress, resource allocation, and any safety or quality incidents.
