By joining the team as a Construction Underwriter, you will work with construction producers to produce new business and manage a territory in the large construction space, and provide value added construction services to agencies and their clients. Key Responsibilities of the Role Manage and grow an assigned territory, consisting of complex, middle market construction accounts, by building strong relationships with agents, underwriting a book of business to maximize profit, and providing top notch service Develop new business quotations and declinations with Senior Director or Construction Underwriting in order to achieve an annual production goal Act as a life cycle underwriter, handling a renewal book and endorsements Provide prompt and professional service to our agents and insureds Collaborate with regional underwriting and marketing teams to meet financial objectives Build personal construction expertise through continuing education, designations, and construction specific conferences Actively engage with agency personnel to provide value added services to the agency and their clients – educational presentations, sales presentations, client / job site visits, and pre-renewal meetings Be an active presence in the marketplace, building credibility for Central in the construction industry Develop and maintain excellent rapport with our agents, insureds, and Central employees Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in related field and 4 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience including construction underwriting experience Or 6 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience including construction underwriting experience Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications Achieved or actively pursuing the CRIS (Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist) designation Successful completion of one or more professional designations: CPCU or CIC Previous experience handling large construction underwriting territory Previous experience managing and growing an assigned territory Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Commercial Lines coverages and policies in assigned states Ability to professionally interact with our agents and insureds Ability to investigate, gather facts and information, and analyze coverage Understand the importance of capturing data Possess an innovative and continuous improvement mindset Possess a positive, professional, cooperative, and quality-conscious service attitude Ability to work under pressure, deal with interpersonal conflict, and handle a heavy workload Possess analytical and problem-solving skills Must be available for travel, including overnight travel Possess verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills Ability to understand Central Insurance’s policies and processes Total Rewards Central establishes base pay based on several factors including labor market data and an evaluation of candidate qualifications relative to role requirements.
