Join the New Zealand Consulate-General in Los Angeles as a Consular Adviser, working as part of a small team highly motivated to deliver on New Zealand’s diplomatic goals through our relationship with the Western States of the United States.   Work in Santa Monica, Los Angeles advancing New Zealand’s interests with one of its most important partners Dynamic and varied work across the twelve Western States of the United States Be part of a supportive, collegial and highly motivated team   About the Position - Mō te Tūranga   The New Zealand Consular Adviser in Los Angeles provides consular services to New Zealand citizens in the 12 Western states of the USA and administrative support to the Consulate-General to help ensure its efficient and smooth running. This varied role covers consular cases, notarial and documentary services, and emergency management services as well as administrative tasks to support the post.   Consular Advisers are responsible for: the delivery of consular assistance and support to New Zealanders in distress overseas, in states and countries to which the post is accredited. responding to overseas consular emergencies, including preparation and activation of the consular aspects of crises contingency plans. And includes the responsibilities of issuing of emergency travel documents and notarial services for New Zealanders.   To find out more please read the position description here     The appointment range for this role is US $68,449 to $80,528 total remuneration – negotiable depending on experience.   Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? – Who are we looking for?   A person with relevant formal qualification, skills and experience in a relevant industry (e.g. hospital, police, military, insurance, immigration) which has a strong customer or case management focus or; Previous experience working in a Consular environment or client based services in the US desirable or; Five plus years experience in administrative or similar role. Experience and expertise in the delivery of client based services (for example social work or related professions) or; Consular case management experience in an overseas diplomatic or consular post (New Zealand or another country). A good understanding of the machinery of New Zealand government and the New Zealand government decision making process; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Good stakeholder relationship building skills; Self-motivated worker who can show initiative; A can-do attitude is necessary for working in a small team; and    Values alignment – we value integrity, impact, high-performance, and collegiality   The successful candidate must have the right to work in the United States. The New Zealand Consulate-General is able to support an application for an A2 visa, which is subject to a five year limit. The preferred candidate would be a New Zealand Citizen or Dual National, or a US Permanent Resident and able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government Security clearance.   This is a locally employed position, with terms and conditions being set in accordance with US employment regulations. No offshore allowance or transfer/relocation allowance applies.   Note: If the successful candidate has worked or lived in New Zealand and is subsequently employed as locally engaged staff in a New Zealand Government Embassy, Consulate or High Commission, they may, subject to individual circumstances, have New Zealand Tax Residency obligations.
