Your Opportunity:
The Pharmacy Services Policy Team is responsible for coordinating the development and ongoing maintenance of provincial pharmacy policies and procedures. Pharmacy Services policies and procedures encourage consistency in practice, excellence in service and quality patient care. We empower you to shape the future of Pharmacy Services through impactful policy work offering opportunities for professional growth, and a collaborative environment where your expertise is valued and utilized to improve pharmacy practice and patient care.
Description:
The Policy Consultant is a provincial leadership role that reports to the Manager, Medication Quality, Safety and Policy, Pharmacy Services, providing leadership and direction in developing and maintaining provincial pharmacy policy documents. Policy documents aid in compliance to all applicable laws, regulations, provincial standards of practice, advancement of strategic directives, and contribute to establishing a single definitive culture. By identifying and evaluating alternate solutions, selecting and promoting best practice recommendations, the Policy Consultant creates provincial pharmacy policies which guide pharmacy staff in day-to-day operations. In-depth knowledge of legislation, literature, pharmacy best practice, and pharmacy site operations is required. The Policy Consultant makes recommendations to the Pharmacy Services leadership team on minimum standards that can be achieved provincially for pharmacy, with consideration to the impact on site processes, including the identification of significant impacts to pharmacy resources (e.g., staffing, financial). The Policy Consultant develops and maintains key relationships both internal and external to Pharmacy Services, including participation in the Medication Policy Sub-Committee (sub-committee to the Provincial Medication Management Committee) in the development of AHS clinical policies. External to AHS, the Policy Consultant also engages with experts at a provincial or national level (e.g., Alberta College of Pharmacists, Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Health Canada, other provincial health regions).
