Consultant Anaesthetist (FANZCA) – Regional Western Australia Full-time | Part-time | Sessional | Fixed-term or Permanent Salary: $412,161 – $523,436 p.a. (Consultant Years 1–9) An outstanding opportunity is available for a Consultant Anaesthetist (FANZCA) to join a major regional health service in coastal Western Australia. This role offers the chance to practise high-acuity anaesthesia within a well-resourced, expanding regional hospital, while enjoying an exceptional coastal lifestyle and strong professional support. The Role As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will play a key leadership role in delivering safe, high-quality perioperative and emergency anaesthetic care across a broad and diverse caseload. Your scope of practice will include: Pre-operative assessment and perioperative management General and regional anaesthesia (spinal, epidural, nerve blocks) Complex airway management Acute and post-operative pain management Obstetric anaesthesia, including epidurals and emergency caesarean sections Trauma response and hospital-wide resuscitation You will work within a collaborative blended medical model, alongside Specialist Anaesthetists, Rural Generalist Anaesthetists, Registrars, RMOs and Interns, and contribute to: Clinical governance and quality improvement Teaching, supervision and mentoring of junior medical staff Ongoing service development within a growing regional centre The Health Service The hospital is a regional referral centre providing 24/7 emergency care to a large catchment area and supporting surrounding hospitals and nursing posts via telehealth services. A major infrastructure redevelopment is currently underway, including: Expansion of the Emergency Department A new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) High Dependency Unit (HDU) Mental Health Inpatient Unit This redevelopment presents a unique opportunity for anaesthetists to contribute to the growth of high-acuity regional services. Dual-qualified Anaesthetist/Intensivists will have the opportunity to help shape the future of regional critical care. Salary & Benefits Total remuneration: $412,161 – $523,436 p.a. About You You will have: Fellowship of ANZCA (FANZCA) or equivalent Eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) Substantial postgraduate experience in hospital-based anaesthesia A collaborative, adaptable approach suited to regional practice Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) are welcome to apply. Please note that while the primary site cannot provide initial supervision, successful SIMGs must be willing to complete a supervised placement at another regional site before transitioning into this role.
