Description

The department provides secondary services to the population of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan with clinics at University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. It also provides a tertiary service for paediatric dermatology and complex surgical interventions, Mohs surgery to patients in the South, East and West Wales areas and Photodermatology and monochromator light therapy to patient across Wales and South West England
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £106,000 per annum to £154,760 per annum .
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
The post holder will participate in outpatient clinics undertaking dermatological diagnostic and surgical procedures. This will include both inflammatory and cancer clinics. The department manage referrals via a teledermatology service which the appointee would contribute to. Excellent support is provided from a diverse multi-skilled professional team of clinical and non-clinical staff.

  • To provide with Consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.
  • To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge (as appropriate) in liaison with Consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).
  • To be responsible for the professional supervision and management of resident medical / dental staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of resident medical / dental staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.
  • To participate in continuing medical education.
  • To participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit.
  • The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota to cover Cardiff and Llandough Hospitals. The on-call commitment is currently 1 in 8 but is subject to change according to service need and current workforce provision.
