We are looking to appoint to a Whole-Time Consultant in Emergency Medicine to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Northern General Hospital. This post is permanent post.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for:
Providing a 24/7 consultant-led Emergency Department assessment team to ensure the safe, timely and effective assessment and subsequent management of all patients attending the ED.
Providing consultant opinion for all patients referred for emergency admission and attending the ED. This will include the provision of an immediate opinion and intervention for seriously ill patients at the request of junior ED staff.
Working with our Acute Medical Team providing Consultant cover to SDEC.
Taking responsibility for ensuring the appropriate specialty destination for each patient and determining whether discharge home is appropriate.
Coordinating the junior staff to provide a single assessment as part of the acute medical take.
The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.
