JOB SUMMARY

The landscape consultant will be able to undertake and deliver landscape-specific surveys and assist in all survey work, from photoviewpoint, site assessment and snagging construction projects, including reporting. You will have a good knowledge of plants and be able to design planting schemes for a range of situations and functions. You will have a good understanding of hard landscaping and be able to produce technical drawings to inform tenders and construction. You will have excellent attention to detail and written communication. You will have the opportunity to manage small projects and start to manage and liaise with all key stakeholders, including Clients, Local Authority team members, and Planning Officers. The ideal candidate will bring a sound working knowledge in landscape architecture, project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Accreditation: Associate member of the Landscape Institute on the pathway to chartership or looking to join the pathway to chartership.
  • Experience: Proven experience in landscape architecture, with a focus on landscape and visual impact assessments, detailed design, and aspects of project management.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Communication: Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Project Management: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, fostering effective collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental regulations, sustainability principles, and best practices in landscape design.
    Full UK driving license required.

Responsibilities
  • Client Consultation: Engage with clients to understand project requirements, objectives, and vision, ensuring designs align with their needs.
  • Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments: Conduct assessments to evaluate and mitigate landscape and visual impacts of proposed projects, ensuring compliance with regulations. This includes the completion of landscape visual impact assessments and landscape visual appraisals. You shall prepare and review landscape reports, including detailed analysis and interpretation of results and the provision of recommendations and robust advice.
  • Design: Develop concept through to detailed design (RIBA Stages 1-4) for hard and soft landscape.
  • Strategic Design and Master Planning: Contribute to large-scale projects through advice on strategic design and master planning, aligning with client goals and regulatory standards.
  • Project Management: Oversee small projects or aspects of larger projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Managing projects of various sizes and complexities (with assistance), with financial and time recording to manage budgets. Overseeing survey data management. Liaising with clients, customers, and key stakeholders on all relevant aspects of UK landscape policy.
  • Proposal and Documentation Preparation: Prepare and present design proposals, reports, and technical documentation to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Site Visits and Inspections: Conduct site visits to monitor project progress, ensure quality control, and verify compliance with design specifications.
  • Business Development: Assist in preparing proposals and bids to secure new projects and foster client relationships. Assist in mentoring of junior colleagues.
  • Administrative Duties: Manage project files, documentation, and office coordination to ensure efficient project delivery. Independently undertaking or assisting with site compliance checks and monitoring visits. Reviewing risk assessments for fieldwork and safe working practices, organising site access, and client management.
