· Non-Medical Prescriber
· Degree -Specialist Palliative Care or Specialist Community Practitioner
· Hold relevant Master’s degree
· Palliative Care/Oncology qualification
Desirable
· Leadership and management qualification
· Teaching Qualification
· Interest in further study – PhD level

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential
· Experience working as a senior clinician
· Experience working across settings within a multi-professional environment
· Experience of reviewing and developing services and managing change
· Experience of designing and delivery of education
· Demonstrated ability to prioritise
· Quality Improvement in all areas
· Knowledge and understanding of clinical risk management
· Experience of Clinical Governance
· Experience of clinical audit and research
· Experience of leading a Palliative Care team

SKILLS

  • Education, training and development function. Nurse Consultants should be able to contribute to the training and education of others, establishing formal links with local education providers. They should also contribute to the development of qualified staff in their specialist fields.
  • Professional leadership and consultancy function. Nurse Consultant should be able to demonstrate leadership skills which will support and motivate others, in order to continuously improve quality of care and standards of practice. They should be a source of expertise and knowledge for others in their specialist fields.
  • Practice, service development, research and evaluation. Nurse Consultants should contribute to development of professional practice, through the promotion of evidence-based practice, audit of standards of care. They should also have a role research and evaluation of practice within their specialist fields
