WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 3-6 years of work experience in quantitative research or equivalent.
  • We are seeking applicants with a graduate degree in economics. Academic degrees in statistics, commerce, mathematics, or other related disciplines will also be considered. We will also consider candidates with a university degree in other disciplines who have suitable training or experience in quantitative research.
  • Our ideal candidate will have completed a course in econometrics or statistical regression analysis and will have coursework or knowledge in the field of economic regulation or industrial organization.
  • Experience with and understanding of econometric methodologies and software is a must-have requirement for this position.
  • Advanced competency with MS-Excel or similar spreadsheet applications is also a must-have requirement for this position.
  • An ability to understand and work with economic models is another must-have requirement for this position. You have coursework in econometric methods and microeconomics, and preferably have completed work in industrial organization, economic regulation or competition economics and policy.
  • Strong writing skills are a must-have requirement and cannot be waived. The ideal candidate is a clear, well-organized writer. Your writing ability covers both the ability to document technical research and to provide clear prose motivating and describing research results.
  • You are familiar with and excited by current issues in the economy and particularly in the aviation, transportation, and tourism industries.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO

We are seeking a Consultant or Senior Consultant, Economic Analysis to support our Economics team in Vancouver, BC. As a key member of the Economics team, you will undertake economic research, data development, econometric analysis, report-writing, and presentation development on a wide range of projects. The main focus of the work will be in the area of economic impact; there will also be opportunities to work on regulatory and policy analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and forecasting. Our work is typically, but not exclusively, focused on the transportation and tourism industries, with emphasis on the aviation sector.

You have a strong set of skills in quantitative research and are able to both conduct thorough analysis and provide sound interpretations of results. Your strong writing skills enable you to convert data, empirical results, and models into compelling, well-crafted reports for our clients. Specific duties include:

  • Undertake survey-based research for economic impact project assignments, including survey design, econometric modelling with country multipliers and ratios, and project management.
  • Design and undertake econometric analysis in the areas of consumer demand, cost/production, and pricing relationships.
  • Build knowledge of industry-specific sources of data and develop databases for statistical and econometric analysis.
  • Conduct detailed literature reviews and prepare briefing notes for management and/or clients.
  • Develop detailed knowledge of the aviation, transportation, tourism, and other industries. Our research and analysis approach is not confined to numerical analysis but rather includes developing a deep understanding of the institutions in our clients’ industries.
  • Write reports and contribute to reports explaining research methods, and also draw observations and insights from models and empirical analysis.
  • Support the preparation of proposals for clients by researching relevant information and assisting in proposal writing.
  • Develop marketing presentations and materials and write briefing notes for public audiences.
