About the Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Department The Department of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics provides clinical care to inpatients at Austin Health in the Blood Pressure Clinic where it also performs research into a variety of medical conditions including hypertension, cardiac failure, insulin resistance/diabetes, obesity, hypercholesterolemia and dementia. Amongst other services that the department provides is 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. The Department also provides an outpatient service for patients with hypotension, hypertension or other cardiovascular risk factors. The Department performs clinical and physiological research on patients and normal volunteers and also studies the behaviour of drugs including new drugs. Consultants are expected to provide high level services within their approved scope of clinical practice as part of the Clinical Pharmacology team at Austin Health. A minimum level of expertise and set of skills is necessary. About the role This consultant will work with the other members of the department and requires the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership, teaching and training as well as some administrative requirements. The position reports to the Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics Head of Unit. As the Hypertension Clinic Consultant Physician you will possess excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset. About you To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Clinical Governance Medical Practitioner Registration in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Appropriate training and experience applicable to undertake the defined scope of practice Demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care Demonstrated commitment and ongoing activity in research and/or clinical audit activities Involvement in teaching and training of medical, technical and nursing staff, including at undergraduate and post-graduate level Attendance and active involvement in relevant departmental, organisational and external meetings (i.e. College, Association and National/International bodies) Our benefits Working at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day.
