Summary of Position: Assists in developing positions and implementing INTA policy development and strategies, specifically focusing on Geographical Indications, political issues such as Public Health, and Research projects. Manages assigned special projects in the subject areas noted above. Serves as staff liaison to assigned committees and subcommittees of the Advocacy Group.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Law degree.
  • Postgraduation in IP.
  • 5 years or more in IP-related fields.
Responsibilities

EXTERNAL RELATIONS DUTIES:

  • Serves as staff liaison to assigned committees and subcommittees of the Advocacy Group.
  • Makes recommendations and participates in developing Association policies and positions regarding Brand Restrictions and Geographical Indications.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposed legislation and regulations regarding assigned issue areas and refers such matters to the appropriate committees and/or subcommittees for consideration.
  • Assists in identifying and developing INTA positions towards Geographical Indications and Brand Restrictions.
  • Researches and drafts position papers, testimony, reports, speeches, and correspondence related to assigned issue areas.
  • Creates and maintains departmental contact lists.
  • Identifies and develops government relations opportunities for the Association, including representing the Association at various conferences and forums.
  • Works with the Association’s African/Middle East/International Organizations, Asia-Pacific, China, Europe, India, Latin America, and Washington representatives to serve as the Association’s liaison with legislators and government executive agencies.
  • Responds to routine, as well as substantive written and telephone inquiries from members of the Association concerning assigned issue areas.
  • Draft articles for the INTA website and Bulletin. Also, consult with website and bulletin editors on the placement of stories in assigned issue areas written by association members.
  • Assists the Education Department in identifying topics and speakers regarding assigned issue areas for roundtables, forums, and programs during the Annual and Leadership Meetings.
  • From time to time, contributes to the Association and other commercial publications on assigned issue areas.
