JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide high-quality clinical leadership and psychiatric care within our Private Addictions and Male Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU) wards. This role involves leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering evidence-based treatment, and ensuring the highest standards of mental health care for complex patient presentations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Approved Clinician (AC) and Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry (or within 6 months of completion) and on the Specialist Register.
  • Proven experience managing patients in acute psychiatric settings, including addictions and PICU services.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team-working skills with a patient-centred approach.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to clinical governance principles.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with a range of mental health conditions, including substance misuse disorders and acute psychiatric presentations.
  • Lead and support the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in delivering safe, person-centred, and recovery-focused care.
  • Act as the Responsible Clinician (RC) for detained patients under the Mental Health Act, ensuring all legal frameworks and safeguarding requirements are met.
  • Develop, review, and oversee individualised care plans, incorporating pharmacological and psychological interventions tailored to patient needs.
  • Engage in regular ward rounds, risk assessments, and clinical reviews, ensuring timely documentation and communication with patients, families, and external agencies.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, therapeutic, and medical colleagues to ensure seamless care pathways and effective discharge planning.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and service development initiatives to maintain and enhance quality of care.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff, trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in the on-call rota as required, providing psychiatric input for urgent and out-of-hours needs.
