Description
The Consultant supports the delivery of high-quality R&D Tax Incentive services to clients across a wide range of industries, including technology, manufacturing, life sciences, engineering, and software development. The role involves analysing technical projects, identifying eligible R&D activities, preparing robust documentation, and assisting clients through the entire R&D tax compliance and advisory process. The Consultant contributes to client service excellence, internal practice development, and ongoing improvements in Ryan’s value-driven service model. Duties and responsibilities People: Collaborates closely with Senior Consultants, Managers, Directors and Principal to deliver high-quality R&D tax engagements. Participates in internal knowledge-sharing initiatives and contributes to continuous improvement within the Innovation Funding Services team. Develops working relationships with internal teams, including TRRP, GST, Technology, to support multidisciplinary client service. Engages in professional development to build expertise in tax legislation, industry technologies, and innovation-funding frameworks. Client: Supports delivery of R&D tax compliance and advisory services to clients by: Conducting technical interviews with client subject-matter experts (engineers, scientists, developers). Identifying eligible R&D activities in line with Australian R&D Tax Incentive legislation and relevant guidance. Gathering, reviewing, and analysing technical and financial records. Drafting R&D technical descriptions and supporting evidence. Assisting in the preparation and review of R&D expenditure calculations. Ensures client deliverables are accurate, technically robust, and completed within agreed timeframes. Provides high-quality client support by responding to queries, preparing documentation, and participating in meetings. Maintains a client-focused mindset, reinforcing Ryan’s commitment to exceptional service. Value: Contributes to engagement efficiency by following established methodologies and leveraging Ryan’s proprietary tools and technologies. Supports identification of opportunities to expand client services, including government grants, innovation funding, and process-improvement offerings. Participates in internal initiatives aimed at improving workflow management, automation, and knowledge systems. Helps drive profitable engagement outcomes through disciplined project management, effective communication, and high-quality execution. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; or Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or Commerce with strong interest in technology and innovation; 0–3 years of experience in R&D tax advisory, corporate tax, innovation funding, technology consulting, or a related field (graduates welcome). Familiarity with the Australian R&D Tax Incentive program preferred but not required. Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Ability to efficiently research technical subject matter and navigate government guidance and legislative frameworks. Experience with data analysis tools or documentation-management systems is an advantage. Certificates and Licenses: None required. Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., Engineers Australia, CPA Australia, CA ANZ, ATI) is beneficial but not mandatory. Supervisory Responsibilities: This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide informal guidance to Analysts or new team members.
