GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Consumer Loan Officer is responsible for the daily origination and processing of consumer loans and credit card applications. They will interact with and assist members of the credit union by phone and electronic communication. They will participate in credit analysis and navigate all necessary systems. They must also demonstrate excellent communication with third party vendors and coworkers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or the equivalent.
  2. Two or more years’ experience in lending or loan operations in a financial institution or the equivalent.
  3. Familiarity with standard consumer lending practices. (i.e.: debt ratios, credit reports, notes and security agreements.)

SKILLS:

  1. Evaluation of credit reports and relevant ratios used in underwriting and evaluating consumer loans and mortgages.
  2. P.C. skills: basic familiarity with Windows and simple spreadsheet and word processing programs as well as the BFCU core and internet banking systems.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Credit reporting standards and formats

Responsibilities

1) Maintain positive relationships with members via telephone and electronic communications as it pertains to the origination of consumer loans and credit cards.
2) Take applications from call center personnel and from internet-based origination and collect all relevant information (credit reports etc.)
3) Evaluate consumer loan applications according to criteria set forth in the loan policy of the credit union; approve loans that conform to this policy and forward non-conforming files to Assistant Loan Manager or other authority for further analysis.
4) Disburse funds and open the loan accounts on the on-line computer system.
5) Order credit cards from processor.
6) Attend staff meetings as needed to ensure the proper dissemination of information to all affected personnel.
7) Process VISA payments and adjustments and post cash advances.
8) Provide member service on all products and services as needed to supplement branch staff.
