Description

Job Overview: Positive Living Niagara is seeking a dedicated and passionate Community Engagement and Security Worker to support program staff in managing client flow and providing security at the Consumption and Treatment Services (CTS) Site. The successful candidate will build a strong rapport with service users and work with them to ensure they are successful in the space. The person will also liaise with neighbouring stakeholders including residents, businesses, social service agencies, and emergency services to promote a safe and respectful environment.
In addition to these responsibilities, the role includes delivering education aimed at reducing the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne infections among people who use substances. The incumbent will also provide training on preventing, recognizing, and responding to opioid overdoses using naloxone, and will distribute harm reduction materials and supplies.

4. EDUCATION:

a. Encourage people to use proper substance use supplies and techniques
b. Train individuals at risk of an opioid overdose on how to recognize and respond to an overdose using naloxone.
c. Distribute naloxone kits
d. Provide verbal and written messages related to substance use, HIV, STBBIs, and overdose prevention.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A college or university degree in social or health services, with experience in addictions, mental health, and/or harm reduction in the community social services sector.
· Training and experience in security services
· Knowledge and comfort working within the harm reduction framework.
· Experience in supporting individuals who use substances
· Valid Ontario G driver’s license in good standing with access to a reliable vehicle.
· Current vulnerable sector check required (within 6 months)
· Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
· Lived experience with HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues is highly valued.
· Fluency in French is considered an asset.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

· Strong understanding of substance use, mental health, and harm reduction philosophies.
· Crisis intervention training
· Mental health first aid training or experience
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· French language skills an asset
