REMOTE - EDMONTON, CALGARY, REGINA, SASKATOON OR WINNIPEG

We are looking for a skilled content marketer and writer/editor to join our marketing and business development team. This individual will help us execute the tactics in our content marketing strategy to attract prospective clients, grow and engage our followers, and identify and convert qualified leads.
The successful candidate will have proven experience and know how to write an effective hook. You understand the target audience and are not afraid to ask questions or challenge authors to create a stronger product. You have demonstrated success pitching story ideas to trade publications and other media outlets.
You will produce a high volume and wide variety of copy in this role, including writing and editing firm news posts, ghostwriting and editing articles for lawyers, developing event and marketing copy and writing business development proposals.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Development and Solution Delivery, and working closely with the other marketing and business development team members, this role supports the firm’s team of lawyers across Western Canada. This is a full-time position that can be hybrid or remote from any city in which the firm operates.

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English/linguistics or related field and minimum five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Interviewing and professional writing and editing skills
  • Copywriting experience including search engine optimization and web writing best practices
  • WordPress experience
  • Experience working with the media and external communications
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure

Exposure to or experience in any of the following areas would be an asset:

  • Legal or professional services industry
  • Canadian Press Stylebook
  • Inbound marketing methodology
  • HubSpot (or similar marketing automation/email marketing tool)
  • Asana (or similar project management tool)
  • SharePoint

  • Would be comfortable providing critical feedback/rationale to lawyers and other teammates
Responsibilities
  • Identifying and pitching trending topics and themes within the firm’s core practice and industry areas and strategic areas of growth, meeting with Marketing Strategists and lawyer groups to develop and execute content ideas
  • Developing and maintaining content calendars for practice/industry groups as well as a master content plan for the firm
  • Ghostwriting, editing and posting blogs/articles for lawyers to be posted on the firm’s website and other publications
  • Conducting subject matter and competitor research, as needed
  • Writing, proofing and posting content for the firm’s website, including news posts, client stories, lawyer profiles, service page copy, job posts, etc.
  • Developing creative event themes and campaign concepts
  • Writing and proofing e-invites, e-newsletters and other email marketing materials
  • Writing and proofing other marketing and business development copy, including proposals and pitches, ads, brochures/handouts, e-books, etc.
  • Pitching stories to media, trade and industry publications, monitoring media mentions of the firm and its lawyers and coordinating media interviews
  • Supporting leadership with media inquiries, including drafting potential speaking points with the journalist audience in mind
  • Preparing speaking notes and speeches for internal and external audiences
