SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Content Specialist is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and optimization of Destination Cleveland’s digital content marketing strategies for the website, email communications and other digital platforms. Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Content, the Content Specialist should strive above all else to foster appealing materials that will attract and retain traffic through targeted channels. The Content Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Destination Cleveland’s content initiatives are inclusive and reflective of Cleveland’s diverse communities (communities of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, etc.) through daily implementation while continually optimizing its success with innovative formats, data and lessons learned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of content marketing (or related) experience.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficient in AP Style writing and editing.
  • Proficient in data analysis using Google Analytics.
  • Proficient technology application skills: Advanced MS Office
  • Familiarity with Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Familiarity with content management systems, Kentico preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Possess expert-level written communications skills.
  • Possess above-average editing skills.
  • Possess strong verbal communications skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, Content, assists in the creation of the organization’s content strategies that seek to engage, inspire, educate and entertain audiences, as well as for special projects, campaigns and major events.
  • Under the direction of the Sr. Manager, Content, coordinates Digital Team projects (including timelines, plans, task prioritization and internal communication), both in the organization’s project management tracking system and internally.
  • Proactively develops and implements creative and inclusive content to promote our diverse neighborhoods and communities, Cleveland’s visitor experience and unearth new conceptual directions.
  • In collaboration with Sr. Manager, Content and Digital Platforms team, helps maintain website content via a content management system, ensuring content and imagery is updated, relevant and accurate. Assists with page construction, as needed.
  • Is responsible for regularly monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), such as engagement rate, views, session duration, etc., to analyze and subsequently optimize the effectiveness of metrics.
  • Produces content that embodies the voice of the Cleveland brand and is in tone with its respective audiences, while maintaining the highest level of accuracy.
  • Assists in the management of a diverse editorial team of freelancers.
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Manager, Content, maintains the content calendar.
  • Researches and stays up to date on digital content marketing best practices, trends, innovation opportunities, competitor success and inclusive marketing strategies. Champions diversity and inclusivity in all content.
  • Works with other members of the Content team to brainstorm new, innovative and creative content concepts across all platforms.
  • Collaborates with and seeks input from the Marketing Division and other teams throughout the organization to facilitate the production of content that aligns with the content strategy and organizational goals, while identifying efficiencies.
  • Partners with other Content teammates to fill gaps in work areas during times of high-volume content needs. This includes backfilling the content responsibilities for the Sr. Manager, Content as needed.
  • Assists with Destination Cleveland events as needed including press trips, FAM tours, event input sessions, activations, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Content Manager and Sr. Director of Content & Managing Editor, as well as the Chief Marketing Officer.
  • Hybrid schedule. Expected to work a minimum of three (3) days in-office each week.
