Job Description The Content Strategy Manager is a key leadership position responsible for building and executing an enterprise-wide content strategy within the Marketing Department. This role oversees Burns & Mac Media — our in-house newsroom-style thought leadership engine — driving integrated storytelling across owned, earned, and shared media. The position is also a steward of executive communications leading high-impact communications for the C-suite. With a bold vision and agile approach, the Content Strategy Manager will develop a content strategy that cuts through the noise, elevates our thought leaders and positions Burns & McDonnell as the premier voice in the AEC industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in marketing or a related field required.
  • 8 years of content strategy, executive communications, PR, or integrated marketing, specifically in a complex, B2B environment, preferred.
  • Superior writing and editing skills, including crafting compelling narratives for executive audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of social media platforms, content trends, and thought leadership best practices preferred.
  • Experience working in or with newsroom-style content teams preferred.
  • Proficiency with AI-powered content tools (e.g., HubSpot, Remix AI), content management systems, and analytics dashboards preferred.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills with the ability to influence across functions and levels preferred.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced environments with multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines preferred.
  • Experience managing editorial calendars and a high-volume content pipeline preferred.
  • Passion for storytelling, innovation, and elevating brand voice in meaningful, measurable ways preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Lead enterprise content strategy development across all media types (owned, earned, shared), aligning with business priorities and marketing objectives.
  • Manage the Burns & Mac Media newsroom model — coordinating editorial planning, rapid response processes, and real-time content creation.
  • Champion a “video-first, multi-format” approach to content delivery across digital platforms, social media, and thought leadership channels.
  • Responsible for executive communications for the CEO and executive team — including internal messages, speeches, op-eds, LinkedIn content, media interviews, and presentations.
  • Manage crisis communications for the firm developing communications for media and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with PR, social, and go-to-market teams to surface enterprise thought leadership to elevate SMEs and distribute content that drives engagement and visibility.
  • Leverage analytics, AI tools (e.g., HubSpot Remix), and market insights to guide content strategy and measure impact.
  • Manage consistency of messaging across GTM teams, regional marketers and corporate marketing.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, including sales, HR, and business leaders to align content with organizational goals.
  • Identify opportunities to insert our voice into timely industry conversations and breaking news, positioning our firm as a proactive leader.
  • Establish editorial calendars, daily stand-ups, and agile approval workflows to accelerate delivery and maximize responsiveness.
  • Coach and mentor a multidisciplinary content team, fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Explore opportunities for new owned communications platforms, such as a Burns & McDonnell podcast, to drive content differentiation, engagement and followers.
