Description JOB SUMMARY To work in a team of security officers to provide for the protection of all property at the Mott family estate, Applewood, and the assurance of a safe environment for staff and guests of Applewood. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform periodic rounds of the property to assure that the grounds are safe and secure, including checking gates, equipment and vehicles stored outside, perimeter doors and windows of all structures. Perform periodic checks of fire and intrusion sensing devices to assure that they are in good working order. Prepare written reports of injury, damage, or theft on/or involving Foundation property as well as crime, incident, or other emergency reports. Work with Mott Community College Public Safety to share and report upon public safety incidents and to identify and manage additional public safety support for special events. Practice good judgment when emergencies occur and take appropriate action such as calling police, fire, utility providers, or other staff as warranted by the emergency. Provide information and general assistance to the public and staff while displaying a positive and professional attitude and culturally sensitive demeanor. Communicate regularly with other security professionals in the Flint Cultural Center district. Carry Foundation cell phone dedicated for communication with the on-duty security officer regarding property business during their tour of duty. Support implementation of Applewood’s Master Plan particularly related to security needs. Support implementation of the Ruth Mott Foundation’s strategic plan as it relates to Applewood. Support the execution of all organizational goals, especially those related to facilitating a positive organizational and race equity culture. Complete other duties as assigned. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and Relevant Experience Completion of Police Academy training. Minimum of three years of recent certified/sworn police officer experience involving public contact. Skills Have a current concealed pistol license. In-depth knowledge of security and life safety systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen effectively to a person(s) talking about a matter that requires one to make a decision as well as the ability to interview a person(s) to separate facts from opinion and first-hand knowledge from hearsay. Ability to add numbers and write narrative criminal, injury or other reports in English using correct grammar, sentence structure, and spelling. Basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends. Hold a valid driver’s license and can transport people and equipment. A chauffeur’s license is preferred. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from all sectors of the community and a commitment to race equity, diversity, and inclusion. Ability to detect people talking in a normal voice without directly looking at them, either over the telephone or in person within a distance of six feet. Visual ability, corrected, to observe and detect person(s), motor vehicles and tornado funnel clouds in the daylight from distances of at least 600 feet. Visual ability to read in daylight and with the aid of a flashlight at night, items used by person(s) for identification. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job: Must be able to travel up and down stairs. Bend, stoop, and lift to move materials on occasion. Pull/push, lift and carry up to 60 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds on occasion. Reach both above and below shoulder height when needed. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT The nature of the work requires the ability to work in both an indoor office environment and outdoor environments in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Responsibilities
