Position Summary:
LEE is seeking an experienced Contract Specialist to join a growing legal team. This full-time, temporary role will lead the implementation of DocuSign’s Intelligent Agreement Management software, designing, building, and deploying automated workflows for all stages of the contract lifecycle. The Contract Specialist will pilot the system to review, negotiate, and execute all of LEE’s contracts, making adjustments as needed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the workflows. This position will liaise with vendors and LEE staff and will provide assistance and support to team leads on contracting best practices and software use. The Contract Specialist will report to LEE’s General Counsel and work closely with General Counsel and the Director, Compliance.
The Contract Specialist is a full-time, temporary position for up to 40 hours per week through the end of February 2026. Please note that LEE observes an organization-wide winter break the last week of December each year, and this break is unpaid for hourly employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate years of work experience (If you do not hold a Bachelor’s degree an additional 4 years of relevant experience is required. If you hold an Associate’s degree an additional 2 years of relevant experience is required.)
  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience including contract review, workflow design, vendor management, and contract negotiation experience
  • Advanced proficiency in DocuSign’s Intelligent Agreement Management system
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible and pragmatic
  • Compliance- and process-oriented with a deep understanding of the legal provisions in typical operational contracts
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to LEE’s mission, core values, and theory of change

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience project managing contract management software implementation
  • Experience directly reviewing a large portfolio of contracts, with high volume and quick turnaround
  • Contract management experience in a nonprofit or other mission-oriented setting
  • Paralegal, procurement, or similar background

  • This position is primarily a sedentary role working with colleagues based around the country using remote technologies.
  • The person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with staff or access office equipment.

Responsibilities

System Launch and Training (50%)

  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of LEE’s new contract lifecycle management (CLM) system in DocuSign’s Intelligent Agreement Management software
  • Conduct comprehensive discovery to map existing processes, identify requirements, and gather data to inform system design
  • Serve as the project manager and primary executor for the CLM implementation, creating project plans and managing to milestones
  • Design, build, and deploy automated CLM workflows for all stages of the contract lifecycle, including intake, review, approval, signature, and key contract milestones including renewal and expiration dates
  • Collaborate with Legal to develop and integrate standardized contract templates and clause playbooks into the CLM
  • Ensure the CLM system and its associated workflows are configured to support the organization’s strategic objectives and risk management framework

Contract Management (25%)

  • Draft and review all agreements, including vendor, partnership, and service provider contracts, ensuring terms align with our organizational goals and risk tolerance
  • Liaise with proposed vendors, negotiating contract provisions and answering questions
  • Design and test contract lifecycle management for the independent contractor selection and engagement process, from overseeing Request for Proposals (RFPs) and vetting candidates to managing conflict of interest checks
  • Collaborate with staff to answer their contract-related questions and address disputes, working with legal counsel to support timely and effective resolution

Reporting & Metrics (15%)

  • Develop and maintain dashboards within the CLM to track and report on key contract metrics, such as contract volume, cycle times, and deviations from standard terms
  • Generate and distribute regular reports to provide visibility into the organization’s contractual obligations, risks, and opportunities
  • Champion organizational transparency and accountability by providing data-driven insights that support strategic decision-making and process improvements
  • Analyze contracting data to identify trends, measure performance against benchmarks, and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

Special Projects (10%)

  • Engage in team-level, org-wide, or cross-team special projects as assigned by manager or designee
  • Provide short-term coverage of other Director-level duties during a leave, vacancy, or PTO
