Basic Function: The Casual Supervisor, Custodial, is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of all public areas within buildings and offices at the Zoo, as well as overseeing moving of furniture or other materials. The position ensures the proper cleaning of Zoo buildings and removal of garbage and supports the coordination of resources/required facilities for Zoo events. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess High School education or a Secondary School diploma.
  • Must have 2 years related experience, including 1 year demonstrated experience providing leadership.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Must possess experience in the custodial field, tourist attraction or a customer-oriented business, with proven customer service skills.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of cleaning products, procedures and practices.
  • Must posses a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of specialized cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to lead and supervise.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
  • Must possess an unrestricted Class G driver’s license valid in the Province of Ontario.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent guest service to all Zoo guests and ensures excellent service is provided by Custodial staff.
  • Supervises seasonal staff in conjunction with Custodial Supervisor.
  • Ensures the timely and efficient preparation of all required reports and statements and the proper maintenance of all required records.
  • Assists Custodial Supervisor to organize and lay out work programs for staff assigned to the Unit.
  • Ensures that staff comply with staff lunches and breaks.
  • Ensures the timely, efficient and proper cleaning of Zoo buildings, including washrooms, floors, walls, ceilings, doors, glazing and fixtures.
  • Monitors and ensures the timely, efficient and proper cleaning of the public side of the Zoo’s exhibit viewing glass, signage and the removal of garbage from staff areas.
  • Coordinates and ensures the timely, efficient and proper movement and/or storage of furniture and files.
  • Provides support in coordination of resources/facilities for events; ensures the timely set up for special events as requested.
  • Monitors and ensures the completion and maintenance of washroom log for recording of when and by whom the cleaning was done.
  • Schedules and keeps accurate record of all repairs and maintenance performed by the Unit.
  • Ensures all legislation and applicable regulations are complied with.
  • Responsible for ensuring the good maintenance and cleanliness of all tools and equipment and the custodial storage rooms.
  • Prepares and submit written reports regarding incidents occurring on their shift as required. This includes Supervisor Accident Report forms.
