Position Overview: Concordia Academy in Roseville, MN, is seeking experienced candidates to teach one PSEO section of BIO 120: General Biology I and BIO 130: General Biology II to high school students during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Instructors are expected to demonstrate subject expertise while fostering an environment of active intellectual and creative engagement with students. The PSEO curriculum is provided by the Department of Science at Concordia University, Saint Paul. This is on-site at Concordia Academy. Course Description: BIO 120: General Biology I (4 cr): This course emphasizes inquiry and investigation while introducing students to the unifying theories of modern biological science. Topics considered include foundational mechanisms of matter, energy, cells, genetics, and reproduction. The course is comprised of lectures, readings, discussions, written assignments, online assignments, and a laboratory component. BIO 130: General Biology II (4 cr.): This course evaluates the current hypotheses explaining the origin, development, and maintenance of the Earth's biodiversity. The major lineages of life are surveyed and compared at the organismal level by considering evolutionary relationships between structure and function. The course is comprised of lectures, readings, discussions, written assignments, online assignments, and a laboratory component. Class Dates/Times: TBD (during the traditional school day, but days/times are flexible) Pre-Written Course: Yes Modality: Face to face # of Credits: 4 credits Fall 2026; 4 credits Spring 2027 Total Compensation: $5,000 (Fall 2026); $5,000 (Spring 2027) Program/College: PSEO Program, Concordia Academy, Roseville Course Instruction Responsibilities: * Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses. * Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support. * Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments’ due dates. * Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday). * Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned. * Follow the university and academic unit’s policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education Required: Either (1) Master's degree in biology; or (2) A Master's degree and demonstrated teaching, work, or research experience in biology. Education Preferred: A terminal degree in biology is preferred. Experience Preferred: Face-to-face teaching experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated teaching, work, or research experience in biology is also preferred.
