Key Responsibilities • Preparing and reviewing commercial contracts and related documentation to ensure legal compliance and effective risk mitigation. • Managing contractual amendments, including the evaluation of commercial terms, operational provisions, payment structures, laytime/demurrage clauses, and legal requirements. • Collaborating closely with traders, operators, and cross-functional teams to identify transactional risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies. • Overseeing the full contract lifecycle management process, from initial booking through execution, ensuring timely countersignature and accurate, complete documentation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Graduated or advanced law students, or graduates in Public Translation, International Business/Relations, or similar fields, with a strong interest in legal concepts. • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is a must. • Good understanding of contractual clauses (e.g. force majeure, limitation of liability, assignability, default and liquidation, waivers, etc.). • Good understanding of International Commercial Terms (Incoterms). • Strong command of Microsoft Word and Excel. • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines without compromising attention to detail. • Eagerness to learn and develop strong business and commercial acumen. • Proactive problem-solving skills and a commercial mindset. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in English to non-legal stakeholders. • Strong organizational skills. • Experience with the movement of commodities via vessel, barge, trucks, railcar, or pipeline, both domestically and internationally, is an asset. • Knowledge of the practical application of contracts for the physical movement of bulk commodities or oil, including laytime and demurrage, is an asset. Key Relationships Key relationships for this role include traders, logistics operators, trade finance officers, and teams responsible for laytime and demurrage claims. Trafigura’s Contracts Department manages contractual documentation for storage, purchase, and sale transactions across commodities worldwide. The team reviews contracts for accuracy, analyzes obligations and liabilities, drafts and recommends contractual provisions and amendments, and coordinates with other teams to ensure all transactions comply with company guidelines.
