Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Research Unit at the Montreal Neurological Institute, the Contracts Officer is responsible for the review and negotiation of agreements in support of the Clinical Research Unit. The Officer will work in close collaboration and report with respect to the review of said agreements to the Associate Director, Industry Partnerships (Office of Innovation and Partnerships). In addition, the Officer will be a subject matter expert for funding opportunities offered through federal, provincial, and international research agencies as well as foundations and industry-partner and will advise the Clinical Research Unit on how to maximize research funding potential.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review and negotiate clinical trial agreements as well as any ancillary agreements (confidential disclosure agreements, data transfer agreements, etc.) for clinical research studies to be performed by the Clinical Research Unit of the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital (The Neuro)
• Oversee and implement grants and agreements management processes of external research programs (e.g. provincial, federal, international) to ensure delivery of funding programs to clinical researchers at the Neuro
• Act as a resource person and subject matter expert to the Clinical Research Unit at the Neuro on sponsors’ policies, procedures, and guidelines for funded proposals and applications. Identify and mitigate risk issues, articulate alternatives, and recommend solutions to McGill researchers.
• Design, review, and negotiate agreements and documents related to awarded grant proposals.
• Provide outstanding customer service by assisting and advising researchers during both the pre-award and post-award project phases.
• Liaise with stakeholders on collaborative funding opportunities.
• Work with the appropriate Industry Partnerships Officer and Technology Transfer Managers to ensure that agreements have the appropriate research and commercialization terms.
• Develop working relationships with university stakeholders, industry partners, granting agencies, and foundations. Build partnerships and negotiate with other universities, industry, and non-profit organizations for the Clinical Research Unit at the Neuro.
• Assess and obtain approval for internal resources to support clinical research projects.
• Organize and plan site visits by external agencies for the review of large grants.
• Facilitate the post-award management process with external sponsors and internally at McGill. Work with the Awards Management team in the Office of Sponsored Research regarding post-award issues. As required, communicate with partners to ensure the proper management of awarded and committed funds.
• Provide activity and other special reports as well as analysis within the assigned areas or sectors of responsibility.
• Assume other responsibilities or tasks related as needed to support the research activities of Clinical Research Unit academic staff.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Three years of related experience, preferably at a large, research-intensive university. Experience in budgeting and project management. Knowledge in provincial, federal, and/or international funding opportunities and collaborative projects is an asset. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal in French and English. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. Proven ability to work and achieve objectives within a complex policy and procedure framework.
