OUR OPPORTUNITY

Work Location: Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.
Roster: Flexible roster either 4D/3R or 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth
Reporting to the Mine Services Principal Engineer, this role will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and performance of our control systems, including industrial networks, SCADA systems, PLCs, telemetry systems, and instrumentation. You will work closely with various teams to provide engineering and technical support, aiming to meet and exceed our safety, cost and performance objectives. The department oversees complex telemetry networks across various radio bands, including the 450 and 900 MHz ranges, using a mix of technologies monitored by a Cimplicity and Ignition SCADA system.
We are looking for someone who is a motivated self-starter, adaptable, resourceful, with a positive attitude, and thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic operational environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Mechatronic Engineering or Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science with significant experience in control systems design, programming, and commissioning.
  • Strong proficiency with SCADA, PLC programming, and telemetry systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SCADA Ignition, GE Cimplicity SCADA, Proficy Historian, Csense, MS SQL, and GE-IP PLC platforms.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial & telemetry communication networks and protocols, including Moxa Industrial Switches, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, EGD, and OPC Protocol.
  • Experience with soft starters, VSDs, and pump controllers.
  • Background in radio networks is beneficial.
  • Extensive skills and experience in Industrial Control and Automation (SCADA and PLC), including design, software development, testing, and commissioning, are highly valued.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain control systems for our mine services facilities.
  • Provide technical support for SCADA, PLC, and telemetry systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to identify and resolve issues, reducing unplanned downtime and enhancing productivity.
  • Develop and implement strategies for system improvement, leveraging the latest technologies to ensure our operations remain competitive and sustainable.
  • Engage in project management activities, from conceptual design to commissioning, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, maintaining the highest standards of operational safety and efficiency.
