Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for industrial control systems within the manufacturing engineering team, contributing to process and equipment concepts during RFQs with suppliers.
  • Define and implement hardware, software, safety, and maintenance standards for industrial control systems supporting manufacturing applications such as conveyance, material handling, dispensing, fastening, joining, and inspection.
  • Partner with equipment suppliers on controls component selection, electrical cabinet design, machine-mounted hardware design, power distribution, and cable management strategies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on software development for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), industrial robots, and machine vision systems.
  • Oversee integration of equipment with higher-level factory systems including MES and SCADA.
  • Engage with project teams across all phases of equipment development—from concept through to production launch.
  • Monitor Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize performance metrics.

Required Qualifications:

  • xpertise in control system design, including component selection, power distribution, network architecture, detailed electrical schematics, and documentation of sequences of operation and functional requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs, HMIs, I/O modules, and drives (hardware and software).
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming using Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text.
  • Hands-on experience with Ignition SCADA software, including advanced features such as scripting, database integration, and enterprise administration.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and IO-Link.
  • Skilled in integrating PLCs with peripheral devices including VFDs, servo drives, machine vision systems, barcode scanners, and RFID readers.
  • Knowledge of industrial robotics and PLC-robot interfacing, including standard and safety I/O for program execution, collision prevention, and operator safety.
  • Solid understanding of computer networking fundamentals (OSI model, managed switches, subnets, VLANs).
  • Ability to program in higher-level languages such as Python, C#, and SQL.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment safety standards (ISO 12100, ISO 13849, ISO 10218).
  • Familiarity with common safety components such as relays, light curtains, area scanners, guard monitoring, and locking devices.
  • Proven experience delivering discrete automation projects from concept through design, programming, and commissioning.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools such as AutoCAD and CATIA.
  • Strong organizational skills, including task tracking, schedule management, and documentation (agendas, meeting minutes).
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across all organizational levels and with external partners.
