Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Control Systems Specialist to join our team. Based at our Strathnaver location, this full-time position plays a key role in supporting and advancing automation, instrumentation, and control system initiatives across multiple sites.
This role is part of our established controls team and reports to the Senior Control Systems Specialist, working collaboratively to enhance system performance and provide cross-site support.
Working closely with our mill operations teams, department leads, and external partners including consultants and equipment suppliers, the Control Systems Specialist will help drive successful project outcomes, from initial concept and feasibility through to implementation, commissioning, and ongoing support.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a technical background in automation, electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and enjoys working on a variety of industrial projects with real impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate tasks with site-based teams and contractors to enhance machine performance through ladder logic programming
  • Attend facility daily ops Meetings and identify infrastructure improvement opportunities
  • Maintain a live, prioritized corporate project list specific to control systems and automation initiatives
  • Work with preferred vendors, integrators, and consultants to develop proposals and detailed project scopes
  • Assist with developing or updating Safe Operating Procedures related to new equipment and system changes
  • Review and support the approval of interdisciplinary vendor drawings, including control schematics and electrical plans
  • Provide ongoing technical support to operations as well as throughout specific project life cycles
  • Ensure work aligns with safety protocols and relevant engineering standards (CSA, IEC, ISA, etc.)
  • Participate in cross-site initiatives and support additional duties as needed

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Degree or diploma in a related technical field such as Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering Technology (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Exposure to the following in a manufacturing or process environment:
  • ControlLogix and PLC-5 controls systems including RSLogix 5 & Studio 5000 programming software
  • FactoryTalk View ME/SE HMI software
  • Delta motion RMC motion controllers and RMCTools motion control software
  • AB PowerFlex 750-series AC drives & legacy systems
  • Mitsubishi inverters
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks CAD & PDM, and Enterprise Asset Management software
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong planning and time management abilities
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with a willingness to learn and contribute across disciplines
  • Collaborative team player with sound judgment and a hands-on mindset
  • Willingness and ability to travel interprovincially as needed
