JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of our retail and inventory-driven business. This role will assist the Controller in managing all accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and providing insights that support business decision-making. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in retail or fashion/apparel finance, a deep understanding of inventory accounting, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or equivalent required.
  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the fashion, retail, or consumer goods industries.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and inventory accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., AX Dynamics).
  • Experience with Asset Based Lending is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement packages.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including AR, AP, inventory accounting, and payroll coordination.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with operations and merchandising teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold reporting.
  • Monitor internal controls and help implement best practices to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and tax filings.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and support financial systems upgrades or implementations.
