Our client, a trusted and continually growing group in the construction industry are seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead their accounting operations and support their ongoing growth.
This is a fantastic permanent career opportunity based just outside of St. John’s, NL, ideal for a designated accountant (CPA) with proven experience in the construction industry, dedicated leadership, and strong analytical skills.

EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction or a related industry
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and construction financial operations
  • Proficient in accounting software (ideally Sage 300, Jonas, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders

Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, and payroll
  • Job costing and general ledger maintenance
  • Oversee project budgeting, cost tracking, and variance analysis
  • Preparation of financial statements, reports, and forecasts
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial efficiency and job profitability
  • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing needs
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulatory filings, and financial reporting standards
  • Work with external auditors and manage year-end audit processes
  • Provide financial insight and strategic recommendations to senior leadership
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
