Description Key Responsibilities: The Controller is responsible for partnering with senior members of the organization to monitor financial results, financial reporting and analysis, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, planning and other key projects in the organization to drive business results. The ideal candidate will be operationally focused with strong analytical skills to provide intellectual insight to drive the business. In addition, candidates with ERP experience will be advantaged. Key Deliverables of the Position: 1) Work with the AWI Senior Leadership team on strategic initiatives and be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team. 2) The Controller is the key financial resource engaged with sales, operations, and other functions in a relentless quest for business improvement. 3) Coordinate and lead the development of the annual budget; as appropriate, lead forecast updates to ensure a rigorous “forward view” of the business is always available as a road map for the business. 4) Provide financial analysis across all the product lines to ensure the business is meeting expected and appropriate gross margin targets. 5) Develop timely, accurate, and well supported GAAP financial statements. Analyze financial results monthly for variances to budget while ensuring the financial systems serve as a tool for spotting and internalizing changes in business patterns and practices. 6) Provide leadership, development, and oversight to the financial accounting staff. 7) Coordinate required info for the external audit and serve as the main internal contact during the audit fieldwork. First Year Success Factors 1) Develop a comprehensive understanding of the business and financial systems, tools, and metrics utilized at AWI while evaluating alternatives for improvement. 2) Monthly operating rhythm with senior management and operations to review manufacturing cost variances and root causes. 3) Maintain the existing high standard of execution from the controllership function expressed by generating timely and accurate financial statements, monitoring critical metrics such as DSO, Inventory turns, etc. 4) Work with the General Manager and become his right-hand person to help lead and drive the business. 5) Ensure GL controls are implemented within the ERP to effectively capture costs. Requirements Education and Experience BS degree in Finance or Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial experience; CPA is preferred but not required. Technical Competencies 1) Exposure and Strength in the following areas: a. Financial and operations analysis skills & financial modeling – ability to frame questions, gather and organize data, and challenge outputs to arrive at business intelligence (turn data into information) b. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly close processes c. Manage and refine standard costing systems across manufacturing operations d. Perform detailed monthly variance analysis (labor, material, overhead) e. Partner with operations and supply chain to drive cost efficiency and margin improvement f. Ensure ERP integrity and data accuracy for financial reporting g. Present financial results and strategic recommendations to senior leadership h. General Accounting skills and working knowledge of GAAP i. Working knowledge of the tax code is a plus; tax compliance is managed by an outside CPA firm but ability to spot tax implications or issues is useful 2) Proficient Computer Skills – MS Office, ERP a. Advanced Excel Functions b.
