QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (required).
· CPA designation highly desirable.
· Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, ProContractor by Viewpoint, or similar an asset).
· Valid driver’s license.
EXPERIENCE:
· At least 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting and financial leadership experience, preferably in the construction industry or related sectors (e.g., real estate development, engineering).
· Experience in a senior finance position (e.g., Controller, Finance Director, or equivalent) an asset.
· Experience with construction-specific financial practices, including job costing, WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and contract billing preferred.
· Proven track record in leading financial statement preparation, tax preparation, managing regulatory compliance, and improving internal control systems.
· Proven experience in:
Budgeting, forecasting, and managing cash flow for large-scale construction projects
Leading and mentoring accounting/finance teams
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· General knowledge of construction accounting principles and government tax compliance regulations.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of presenting financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
· Strong leadership and team-building skills; ability to motivate and develop staff.
· Demonstrated success in supporting strategic decisions through financial insight and forecasting.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
· Experience implementing systems, controls, and process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
· Direct all accounting operations, including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Project Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
· Manage the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
· Prepare and present financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
· Develop and maintain budgets and forecasts, providing insightful variance analysis to senior management.
· Oversee project costing and job profitability analysis, partnering with project managers to optimize margins.
· Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal legal requirements, filing reports, and advising management on needed actions.
· Manage cash flow and financing strategies, including banking relationships and lines of credit.
· Coordinate the completion of year end financial statements and tax filings by external accountants.
· Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets.
· Mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
