Key responsibilities include managing the month-end close process, developing and maintaining internal accounting policies, and ensuring adherence to GAAP. This role requires advanced expertise in accounting and ERP systems. The position is a key contact related to compliance including local government taxes and regulations, government surveys, audits, insurance providers and other contracts.   The ideal person should have 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in manufacturing or consumer products as well as 5+ years of people management experience. To be effective in this role this individual must have a deep knowledge of inventory, revenue recognition, and internal controls and ERP experience required. The Controller will work out of our headquarters in Reno, NV.   Position duties / responsibilities: * Drive the monthly and annual financial close process and assist in producing the monthly internal financial statements including the annual consolidation. * Liaison for external audits and review of accounting and administrative controls. Coordinates the preparation of external audit materials as well as external financial reporting. * Responsible for all accounting related activities including inventory valuations and for directing operational month and year-end processes including the global cost roll. * Ensure the proper accounting and valuation of inventory. This involves daily and monthly reviews of all aspects of inventory transactions. * In charge of fixed assets and maintains the fixed asset register, including additions, transfers, disposals, and retirement obligations. Determine proper accounting treatment (capital vs. expense) and calculate depreciation. * Manages Account Receivable and Account Payable teams * Prepare capital budgets for current and future products including business cases for new investments, strategic and other business decisions. Drive the tracking and reporting of capital related expenditures in the general ledger. * Oversees GL Accounting, Cash reconciliations, SALT reporting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and provides support to payroll. * Responsible for accurately recording and paying business taxes, royalties, licenses, government fees and rents. * Assure appropriate accounting practice and procedures are in place, as well as business and financial controls; champion, build consensus and complete guidelines for such items as:  1. internal controls 2. adequate segregation of duties 3. reconciliation of general ledger and sub-ledger accounts 4. costs and expenses maintained under budgetary control 5. critical transactions are documented, traceable, authorized and verified 6. corporate risk management and insurance program * Assist with hiring, retaining and developing Finance Department staff.   * Become a key department contact and super user with respect to the company’s primary business systems (JDE, Phocas, etc.). * Proactively identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance internal and external customer service. * Other special projects and duties as assigned.
