POSITION SUMMARY

The primary role of the Controller is to oversee the preparation and presentation of financial and managerial reports for FREE and the FREE Family Network. The Controller is responsible to understand, manage and supervise all aspects of budgets, audits, internal and external reporting for the various organizations in the FREE network. It is expected that the Controller will review existing processes and make recommendations for improvement. The Controller will directly supervise the staff in the Reporting & Budget team. Additionally, the Controller is responsible to mediate emergency situations pertaining to the program, according to established policies and procedures and ensure communication of such situations in a timely fashion to the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:

o Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • Experience:

o Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting and minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required

  • Specialized Training, Licenses, Certifications:

o CPA and experience in the industry preferred

  • Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:

o Strong supervisory, leadership, and project management skills
o Strong technical accounting and financial analytical skills
o Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
o Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
o Must be efficient, detail oriented, well organized, and have excellent communication skills.

o Able to learn new computer programs as they become available and gain proficiency in order to train others

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is sedentary; employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours)

    ********* The Pay Range for this job is $85,000 – $90,500. This range is based on what FREE reasonably believes it will pay an employee as for said position at the time of the posting. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s experience, qualifications, longevity at FREE, geographic location, relevant skills, and other factors permitted under federal, state, and local laws.
Responsibilities
  • Interviews, hires, develops and retains high quality staff
  • Supervises staff that report to this position. Reviews all work for accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. Meets regularly with staff to train and mentor. Provides regular coaching and evaluation, and completes annual evaluations required by the organization
  • Develops policy and procedures for areas of responsibility, within the guidelines of agency policy
  • Ensures processes are completed in a timely manner and properly reviewed. Where applicable, develops and maintains a monitoring system for these
  • Regularly reviews reports specific to the area of oversight to assure completeness, accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. Ensures that all reporting is completed on a timely basis
  • Interacts with software support teams to resolve issues related to the areas of oversight
  • Coordinates the preparation of annual budget, including analysis of significant changes and summary of all assumptions used
  • Responsible for the overall preparation of the CFR for each reporting entity in the FREE network
  • Performs reviews to ensure accuracy of data throughout the general ledger and all subsidiary ledgers
  • Responsible to create reports that provide both accounting and operations useful information on the financial performance for expenses related to areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries regarding the data in those reports
  • Updates accounting manual for all changes to existing policy and procedure
  • Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed/processed appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds
  • Works with the VP and CFO on special projects; assists in office operations as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
