CONTROLLER AT THE KEY BISCAYNE YACHT CLUB

This is a rare opportunity to join the leadership team of one of Florida’s most prestigious and historic yacht clubs. The Controller is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for the strategic and day-to-day management of all financial operations at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club.
Reporting to the General Manager/COO and working closely with the Chair of Finance, the Controller is instrumental in guiding the Club’s financial future. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of all daily accounting duties, from cash flow management to month-end close. This position also plays a critical role in long-range financial modeling to support the Club’s strategic objectives, helping guide investment and capital planning decisions over a 3-to 5-year horizon.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for the overall financial management and accounting operations of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. This position reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with the Board of Directors and various committees. The Controller will oversee all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and audit activities, ensuring the financial health and stability of the Club. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, strategic thinker with a strong background in club or hospitality accounting.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a management or controller role.
  • Experience in the private club, hospitality, or non-profit sector is a significant advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proven knowledge and experience with Jonas Club Software, ADP Payroll system, and Microsoft Power BI are highly preferred. Proficiency in other club management software is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to a non-financial audience.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.

Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations to the General Manager and Board of Directors.
  • Present financial reports and analysis at Board meetings.
  • Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and proper classification of all financial transactions.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Lead the annual budget process, working with department heads to develop realistic and effective budgets.
  • Monitor and analyze budget variances, providing regular reports to management.
  • Develop and maintain financial models for forecasting and strategic planning.
  • Accounting Operations:
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations and tax requirements.
  • Manage the Club’s payroll system, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Reconcile all bank and credit card accounts monthly.
  • Internal Controls and Audits:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard the Club’s assets.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process, acting as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial policies and procedures.
  • Membership Accounting:
  • Manage the billing and collection of member dues, fees, and charges.
  • Respond to member inquiries regarding their accounts in a professional and timely manner.
  • Strategic Support:
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Manager and leadership team on financial strategy and business decisions.
  • Provide financial analysis for special projects, capital expenditures, and potential new ventures.
  • Assist in the development of long-range financial plans.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Supervise and mentor the accounting and administrative staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
