Reporting to the Vice President/Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller is directly responsible for all accounting and financial reporting for NCCN and NCCN Foundation. The Controller works collaboratively with other management team members and directly manages the NCCN Accounting staff. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages all aspects of the day-to-day accounting operations of NCCN and NCCN Foundation including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, financial statements, revenue recognition, and the maintenance of all accounting records in accordance with GAAP. Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards. Maintain documented system of accounting policies and operations. Monitor cash balances. Coordinate audits of NCCN and NCCN Foundation by outside accounting firm. Make recommendations for maintaining and enhancing controls related to NCCN’s internal control environment. Ensures that NCCN’s and NCCN Foundation’s accounting systems are efficient and effective, recommending and implementing new methodologies and process improvement as appropriate. Coordinating and preparing all internal and external financial reports on a timely basis In conjunction with other accounting staff, prepares various program and department budgets for NCCN and NCCN Foundation annual budgets. Manage grant budget development and reconciliation. Investigates and informs senior leadership and program management of significant budget-versus-actual variances. Oversees preparation of NCCN and NCCN Foundation Form 990s. Coordinates filing of state registrations for both NCCN and NCCN Foundation with outside legal firm. Prepares and updates Accounting Manual. The Controller interacts closely with the CFO in conjunction with the CFO’s duties related to the NCCN Finance Committee and the NCCN Foundation Finance Committee as well as in preparing pro forma and other analyses needed for strategic planning purposes. Performs all related NCCN functions and responsibilities in accordance with the NCCN Core Values Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements EDUCATION/RELATED EXPERIENCE: Accounting or Finance degree required; Master’s degree preferred CPA required Prior experience in a Controller position with people management experience required Non-profit experience required Health care experience preferred SKILLS AND ABILITIES: In-depth knowledge and understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Strong computer skills with experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Knowledge of Oracle NetSuite and NetSuite Planning and Budgeting (NSPB) preferred Strong analysis and problem-solving skills Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel at all levels Excellent writing skills Ability to formulate and present financial information in a clear and concise manner Ability to collaborate well with senior executives and Accounting team, as well as mentor/lead staff and foster their professional development. Organizational ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines Superior attention to detail Work Environment & Physical Requirements: This position operates in a professional office environment and is largely sedentary. This role routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
