Controller (Onsite, Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Our client is a successful museum in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and they are seeking a seasoned Controller to join their team. The Controller is responsible for the financial management and oversight of all accounting operations. This includes general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and compliance. The Controller also plays a key leadership role in managing staff and collaborating across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (2+ years in a supervisory role)
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit and fund accounting
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud) and advanced Excel
  • Must be willing to work onsite 5X a wee
Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

  • Oversee daily accounting functions, including payroll, AP/AR, and cash management
  • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain strong internal controls and complete account reconciliations
  • Ensure accurate general ledger maintenance and reporting

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Lead annual budgeting process with leadership and department heads
  • Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis and forecasting
  • Support long-term financial planning and modeling

Grants & Contracts

  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds and ensure grant compliance
  • Manage financial reporting for government and private grantors

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual financial audits and IRS Form 990 preparation
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and legal requirements

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff
  • Provide financial insights to support operations, programs, and fundraising
