Job Details Job Location: Tampa, FL 33629 Controller Position The Controller at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club plays a key leadership role in keeping the Club’s financial operations running smoothly and efficiently. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, member-focused hospitality environment and wants to make a visible impact across the organization. As a highly visible and approachable leader, the Controller partners closely with department heads, supports Club leadership, and helps ensure financial excellence behind the scenes of one of Tampa’s premier private clubs. This role combines technical accounting expertise, people leadership, and operational collaboration, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, service-driven setting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller oversees daily accounting operations, leads the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, supports financial reporting and audits, and helps strengthen internal controls and systems. This role is also responsible for processing payroll through the Paycom platform. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Accounting Operations, Planning & Reporting Play a central role in the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Partner with the Director of Finance to prepare meaningful financial reports and analyses for the General Manager, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors. Develop and deliver recurring and ad hoc reports that help leaders understand performance and trends. Collaborate with department heads on annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring results. Support capital planning and cash flow analysis to help guide smart financial decisions. Prepare and maintain key internal reports, including daily revenue summaries, payroll reports, and interim financial statements. Perform profit and loss analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance reviews that drive accountability. 2. Operational Controls & Compliance Serve as a trusted financial resource to department heads, helping them understand policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensure accounting-related operations including food & beverage, golf and tennis pro shops, purchasing, payroll, and revenue controls operate in compliance with established standards. Help develop, refine, and implement accounting-related policies and procedures that support efficiency and accuracy. Participate in and verify physical inventories of food, beverage, supplies, equipment, and other Club assets. Maintain fixed asset records and assist with depreciation schedules and monthly entries. Support strong cash controls, bank reconciliations, and safeguarding of Club funds. 3. Payroll Administration (Paycom) Process bi-weekly payroll through the Paycom platform, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Review timekeeping, earnings, deductions, and payroll reports prior to submission. Coordinate payroll changes including new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, and deductions. Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies. Ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations and maintain payroll records. Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions and troubleshooting. 4. Leadership & Team Development Lead, coach, and support the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams. Create a positive, collaborative, and service-oriented accounting environment. Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to help team members grow and succeed. 5. Audits, Tax & Regulatory Support Play a key role in the annual audit process, partnering with external auditors and internal stakeholders. Support compliance with payroll, accounts payable, and federal, state, and local tax reporting requirements. Ensure records are accurate, organized, and audit-ready. 6. Risk Management & Insurance Support Assist with the Club’s risk management efforts, including claims documentation and coordination. Help maintain accurate insurance records to protect the Club’s assets and operations. 7. Project & Capital Accounting Support Support Club projects by tracking budgets, monitoring spending, and preparing financial updates. Assist with contract review support and financial oversight through project completion. 8. Technology & Systems Support and enhance the Club’s accounting systems and POS platform (JONAS), ensuring data integrity and accurate reporting. Assist with system improvements, upgrades, and staff training initiatives that modernize and streamline accounting operations. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a private club, hospitality, or service-driven environment. Supervisory or team-lead experience within an accounting or finance function. Familiarity with Jonas Club Software strongly preferred. Strong technical skills with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel. Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. A collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across departments. High standards of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
