Description Summary: The Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial operations of the business, including billing, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, month-end, and year-end close process. This role reports directly to the President/CEO. Core Responsibilities: Accounting and Financial Operations - Responsible for all aspects of the accounting and financial operations. - Development and oversight of accounting procedures to support timely and accurate financial reporting. - Responsible for timely remittance and filing of all Federal, State, and Local tax obligations. - Responsible for compliance with GAAP, Federal, State, and Local financial reporting requirements. - Continuously improve the financial reporting of the business. - Responsible for cash flow management. - Integration with service and construction to ensure revenue and cost are recognized in accordance with GAAP. - Conduct financial analysis and research in support of all areas of operations. - Coordinate and manage relationship with third party CPA firm to ensure the business complies with all applicable rules and regulations, and annual tax and review engagements are completed timely. - Manage relationship with primary bank and other financial institutions that support business operations. - Plan and execute annual budgeting process for review by leadership team. - Responsible for maintaining capital equipment budget and replacement schedule. - Supervise and direct the work of all Accounting Staff. - Coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software. - Responsible for identifying deficiencies in current software systems and developing procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and Tax regulations. - Manage RFP process for third party service providers. Additional Responsibilities: - Critical interface between other departmental support operations – service and construction billing, job cost accounting, inventory and purchasing. - Provide guidance regarding financial policies and procedures relating to accounting and reporting. - Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies, and current accounting standards. - Manage records created and received related to accounting functions. Leadership - Leadership and development of the accounting and financial team. - Serve as a strong executive leader who helps lead across all areas of the business. - Coordinate with third-party software vendors to maintain all relevant software systems to the financial operations of the business. Job Qualifications: - 5 to 10+ years of relevant experience. - Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. - CPA / CMA is helpful. - Job costing and construction accounting knowledge is required. - Family business experience is preferred.
