Your Impact: Shape the financial foundation of Skyward Federal. As our first in house finance and accounting hire, our Controller will build and own a finance function that scales with our growth, bringing structure, compliance, and clarity to a dynamic, mission-driven environment. Your work will empower leadership to make informed, strategic decisions while ensuring accuracy, accountability, and alignment with both commercial and federal standards. This position requires eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance; currently active clearance heavily preferred. Where You'll Take Charge: Financial Stewardship & Strategy – Lead accounting operations, forecasting, and reporting; evolve the outsourced model into a scalable, strategic finance function. Budgeting & Forecasting – Design and implement flexible budgeting frameworks that enable informed decision-making and operational agility. Compliance & Controls – Oversee financial compliance for both corporate and DCAA-governed contracts, ensuring readiness for audits and adherence to federal standards. Partnership & Enablement – Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership to support business strategy, growth, and transparency through data-driven insights. Lead accounting operations, reporting, and monthly close with accuracy and consistency. Build/manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models that drive confident decision-making. Partner with leadership and outsourced vendors to strengthen financial controls and ensure federal compliance strategies (DCAA, FAR, and GAAP). Implement tools, policies, and systems that enhance accuracy, scalability, and efficiency. Prepare and present F&A insights and metrics that guide strategic and operational decisions. Build scalable systems to support growth and future internal finance team development. Develop, maintain, and optimize budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking systems. Your Edge: CPA preferred Strong accounting and finance experience in government/federal contracting Deep understanding of GAAP, FAR, and DCAA principles Proven record of standing up or refining financial infrastructure in a growth-stage business Strong, varied accounting systems fluency Exceptional attention to detail, accountability, and follow-through Familiarity with cost accounting standards (CAS) Comfortable as a hands-on individual contributor Ability to balance compliance rigor with startup adaptability U.S. citizenship is required to meet eligibility for a security clearance Growth Potential: This role offers the opportunity to build, refine, and lead Skyward’s internal finance and accounting function. Over time, our Controller will expand scope to include FP&A, contracts and procurement oversight, and team leadership; positioning for eventual progression to Director of Finance or VP, Finance & Operations and a potential long-term route to CFO.
