Tamaya Ventures seeks a strategic, experienced, and value-driven Financial Controller to oversee the company’s financials. As a key executive team member, this leader will play a central role in strategies and align with the long-term vision of Tamaya Ventures and the Pueblo of Santa Ana. The ideal candidate for this position is a full-charge accountant with a comprehensive understanding of the complete accounting process, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgeting, and financial reconciliations. They should possess strong analytical skills to assist with feasibility studies for development projects and have experience in strategic planning and implementation alongside executive teams. Additionally, the candidate must be skilled in establishing and enforcing internal controls to protect assets and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including a solid understanding of GASB standards. They should be capable of leading the budgeting cycle, collaborating with multiple business units, and providing insights during board meetings and various committees. Experience in asset and property management, retail accounting, and the ability to drive innovative strategies is essential. Lastly, the candidate should demonstrate a high level of confidentiality and exhibit strong communication skills to engage with external auditors and management effectively.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Ten years of progressive and demonstrated experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or related position
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, CPA, or other accounting licensure. A combination of relevant education and directly related work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

The Controller is responsible for leading accounting efforts, managing financial activity, working with multiple entities, and helping to build our team and company. Under the general direction of the Director & CEO, accomplishes the Finance Department’s objectives and management by planning, organizing, and directing all functions required to analyze finance and accounting processes effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. This includes exercising a high level of confidentiality, policy enforcement, and safeguarding of assets.
  2. Full charge accountant, will need to be able to perform the complete accounting process, including AP, AR, Payroll (including benefit management), Budgeting, Projections, Reconciliations, Journal Entries, Month End Close, etc.
  3. Ability to assist with feasibility studies for development projects, including Cap Modeling and assessment of financing possibilities.
  4. Participates with the executive team in strategic planning and strategy implementation/management.
  5. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  6. Works with external auditors, monitors, and confirms financial condition by conducting audits
    and providing information to external auditors.
  7. Leads and manages the budgeting cycle by establishing schedules; leads budget development and implementation, in partnership with the management team, monitors company budgets, collects and analyzes financial data, and initiates corrective action.
  8. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions. This includes a strong understanding of GASB standards.
  9. Attends Tamaya Ventures’ Board meetings, as needed; attends meetings of other Santa Ana entities as requested to provide updates/insight for pueblo-wide activities. This will include the financial condition of the company, relevant economic data and analysis, summarization of financial information and trends, and contributions to the management of the pueblo-wide health and 401 (k) plans.
  10. Attends and sits on committees, including but not limited to the capital and investment-related committees as needed with the organization to support the goals of Pueblo.
  11. The ability to work with multiple business units, collaborating with other employees, idea generation, and contributing to innovative strategy development.
  12. Experience with asset management and property management, including IRR, Proformas, CAM tracking, and other real estate analysis.
  13. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
